Just a list of FREE video codecs, you'll probably need one of them after you finish editing your video. And by free i mean NO shareware, addware or such shit.
WINDOWS FREE VIDEO CODECS/ENCODERS
-
ffdshow (http://ffdshow.sourceforge.net/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php)
Video for Windows and DirectShow codec based on VFW code from XviD project and using libavcodec library from ffmpeg project for compression. Few other compression libraries are supported too. -
Ligos Indeo Codec 5.11(http://www.9down.com/modules.php?name=News&file=print&sid=2981)
A little older version of this codec so it's free ;-)
Video codecs originally developed by Intel, but later taken over by Ligos. Used widely throughout many years. Latests versions provide good picture quality and many different bit rates. -
XviD (Koepi's build http://www.koepi.org/xvid.shtml or Nic's build: http://nic.dnsalias.com/)
XviD is a very popular codec these days, and is used often. Modern builds can also play back that various DivX encoded files, so it's good to install one of these first ;-)
If you want to add one, just post a reply and i'll add it. This list will grow as time passes. Still needs Linux and Mac section.
