Using my Sony TRV480 camcoder as passthru

Hi,

Pls, I'll like to know how to connect my SONY camcoder as pass thru to capture analogue video from VCR to my PC. Anytime I attempted this, I'm only able to capture the audio but nothing shows on the camera LCD. Ironically, it was clearly stated in the cam manual that it's quite possible but i've made several attempts & could not still work out.

I do connect the camera to VCR thru RCA cable supplied.

Pls, what else do I need to know on the connection.

Your prompt response will be highly appreciated.

if you can hear the sound on your PC you did at least half right, so you are on right track.

Thinking about what you said, that you can get only audio thru to PC, makes me wonder what kind of RCA cable did you use. Did you use
1. RCA audio cable

2. RCA video (to S-video) cable

3. RCA audio and video cable

4. Other??

If you used 1. it makes sense that you can capture only audio on you PC ;-) 'cause it's audio only cable.
If you used 3. relaying of sound and video should be physically possible and i would be surprised if the video wouldn't transfer.
Since 2 lines are for sound output on your VCR and 1 line for video remember to connect all three.
Post some feedback to help you more ;-) Maybe a picture of your RCA cable?

Thx Hexa,
I use RCA cable (exactly as shown in diagram 3) and it surprises me too that this connectn only gives me sound & blank LCD on my camcoder. FYI, dv/av out is even enabled in my camcoder setting. Sometimes, edited avi or dv format footage plays back conviniently on my camcoder from the PC: but capturing from VCR never shows any image.

Pls advice on what else to do. I need this thing very seriously.

Rgds - JohnA
